SUMMARY:STRATA - A Musical Storytelling Evening Under the Stars
DESCRIPTION:On the evening around the Autumnal Equinox\, Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch welcomes STRATA\, an unforgettable outdoor performance featuring acclaimed author Craig Childs and award-winning vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Beth Quist. \n\n\n\nGate opens: 5:30PM \n\n\n\nShuttle ends 6:45PM \n\n\n\nShow starts: 7:00PM \n\n\n\nSTRATA is a spoken\, musical journey through layers of history and geology led by our storyteller\, Craig Childs. You’ll come away entertained and having learned something. Starting at the stroke of sunset on September 19th\, this outdoor performance will be a mix of Prairie Home Companion\, a TED talk\, and a desert ritual with a live soundtrack. This year’s musician is Beth Quist on vocals\, hammered dulcimer\, and a variety of instruments. Quist has long toured with Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra and was lead singer and multi-instrumentalist in Cirque du Soleil’s Las Vegas performance of Kà. This will be a night under a wide sky that fills the senses and the mind\, and if stars align\, the soul.

DESCRIPTION:Join Pam Houston & Amy Irvine for a long\, late autumn weekend of walking\, writing\, stargazing and animal appreciation at Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch. \n\n\n\nWe will walk and talk and sit together. There will be prompts and strategies to get the elements of the physical world we love on the page. We’ll soak in the surroundings and open ourselves to the deepest emotional truths we hold inside. \n\n\n\nBring your hiking boots\, laptops\, or pen and journal. Bring your willingness to be with your whole self\, and in community. \n\n\n\nPlan to get some vital pieces of writing started\, words that will honor the truth of you\, the planet\, and all of its diversities. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited to 16 participants!  \n\n\n\nTo claim your workshop spot\, email pamlhouston@me.com \n\n\n\nOnce we confirm availability\, you’ll be directed to make a $325 nonrefundable deposit via Venmo. A second payment of $325 will be due by September 15th. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlanning notes – PLEASE READ: \n\n\n\n\nCanyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch is located in a remote area\, in McElmo Canyon\, outside of Canyon of the Ancients National Monument\, west of Cortez\, Colorado. So travel takes some planning. Closest airport is in Durango\, CO.\n\n\n\nThe cabins are rustic\, yet upscale and gorgeous. There is camping nearby in Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and other lodging options in or near Cortez.\n\n\n\nCome prepared with your own beverages and snacks and ingredients to make meals (there will be one catered taco dinner\, one potluck dinner\, and we will provide coffee and tea during workshops). \n\n\n\nIf you’re not staying in a cabin with a kitchen\, there is a community kitchen and bathroom in the ranch’s Rascal’s Hideout\, where we meet. \n\n\n\nRascal’s IS HEATED BY AN OLD WOOD STOVE\, which might not be suitable for those with asthma.\n\n\n\nCome prepared for both heat and cold–it could be very hot or even snowing!\n\n\n\nSorry\, while pets are often welcome on ranch\, we won’t be able to accommodate them during our time together.
